No.2 Loughcaster
“ | Standard-issue Warden rifle. This bolt-action firearm is as robust as they come and has seen over a century of use on the battlefield. | „ |
— In-game description |
The No.2 Loughcaster is the standard Rifle for the Warden faction. It uses 7.62mm ammunition.
Description
The No.2 Loughcaster is a bolt-action 7.62mm primary weapon with 45-67 Light Kinetic damage, long range (27m effective, 40m max), mediocre fire rate (55 rounds/min), and 12-round magazine. It has great accuracy but heavy recoil. It loses stability very quickly from movements and is thus best fired from a stable position. Within its effective range it kills in two shots most of the time (90% chance).
Compared to its Colonial counterpart, it fires slower and is heavier but this is compensated with slightly longer range and higher accuracy.
It can equip a Bayonet or Ospreay launcher
The Soldier Uniform reduces Loughcaster's weight by 25%.
It does not stack in the player's inventory (1 per slot).

Mass Production Factory orders must have at least 3 crates.
Storage
It does not stack in structure or vehicle inventories (1 per slot). It can only be stored in the stockpile of Bases (32k max).
Crates of No.2 Loughcaster can be directly submitted to any item stockpile that accepts that item to transfer their content. The crates can also be stored in the crate stockpiles of Storage Depots (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Seaports (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Shipping Containers (60), or Storage Ships (1000).
It can be transported by almost any vehicle with inventory slots. However it is much more efficient to transport it in bulk amounts as crates, either delivering them to a Base's stockpile with a Truck or to a crate stockpile with shipping vehicles carrying Shipping Containers.
Tactics
The Loughcaster offers much better performance at longer ranges then the Argenti. This rewards a user who will keep their distance from the enemy and uses cover to stabilize their weapon.
While its precision helps offset the loughcaster's lower rate of fire in medium range gun battles, it is a very poor choice at close range. It is highly advisable to either switch to a more suitable Secondary Weapon, like the Ahti Model 2 or the Cascadier 873 when faced with short range fights. Alternatively, equipping a Bayonet can mitigate the weapon's poor CQB performance.
Trivia
- Prior to the introduction of faction-specific small arms in Update 0.42, the Loughcaster was also used by the Colonials, and was referred to simply as a "Rifle" (their stats were identical)
- The No.2 Loughcaster appears to be based on multiple rifles.
- The featuring elements of the rifle resemble the French MAS-36 (lower reciever, furniture), the Italian Vetterlis (Bolt dust cover), and the Swiss Schmidt-Rubin straight-pull bolt action rifles (Bolt handle and straight bolt throw)
- Prior to an update to it's in-game model, the Loughcaster closely resembled the real life M1 Garand
- This old model of the gun can still be observed in the game, such as the Cursed Rifle found in the Shocking Massacre Landmark
- Several other rifles within the Warden arsenal appear to be based on the Loughcaster, or at least part of a wider design family
- The Clancy Cinder M3 appears to be a longer and heavier version of the No.2 Loughcaster
- The Sampo Auto-Rifle 77 appears to be a full-automatic conversion of the Loughcaster, possibly based off the real life Pedersen device
- The No.2B Hawthorne is a direct modification of the No.2 Loughcaster, originally as a field modification and then made into a proper design
- The Booker Storm Rifle Model 838 shares a few pieces of furniture and hardware with the No.2 Loughcaster. It's possible that the Booker is a full-auto 7.92mm conversion of surplus bolt action rifles, similar to the real life Huot Automatic Rifle
