In-game description

The KRR2-790 Omen (or simply Omen) is a Colonial Long Rifle designed for long range fire fights.

Description

The KRR2-790 Omen is a bolt-action 7.62mm primary weapon with 45-67 Light Kinetic damage, slow fire rate (30 rounds/min), long range (35m effective, 45.5m max), and 10 round magazine. Its slow stability regain rate forces players to shoot from a crouched stance and with cover if they wish to fire accurately at max fire rate. However, even with a stable position the gun's mediocre accuracy at long range makes it miss often.

The Omen outranges nearly all firearms in open range fire fights and is ideally used between 35 and 40m. At 39m, where its aiming line ends, it kills in 4 or 5 shots with 35% chance to cause bleeding when a Malone MK.2 Machine Gun would deal less than 5 damage and no bleeding. The Warden Long Rifle can effectively fight the Omen at long range, and only Sniper Rifles, and armaments mounted on vehicles or structures can outrange it.

It can use a bayonet.

The Soldier Uniform reduces the Omen's weight by 25%.

It does not stack in the player's inventory (1 per slot).

Mass Production Factory orders must have at least 3 crates.

Storage

It does not stack in structure or vehicle inventories (1 per slot). It can only be stored in the stockpile of Bases (32k max).
Crates of KRR2-790 Omen can be directly submitted to any item stockpile that accepts that item to transfer their content. The crates can also be stored in the crate stockpiles of Storage Depots (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Seaports (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Shipping Containers (60), or Storage Ships (1000).
It can be transported by almost any vehicle with inventory slots. However it is much more efficient to transport it in bulk amounts as crates, either delivering them to a Base's stockpile with a Truck or to a crate stockpile with shipping vehicles carrying Shipping Containers.

Tactics

The Omen should be used specifically at ranges between 35 and 40 meters, where most firearms lost their effectiveness, and fired from a crouched position behind cover. The gun might need multiple shots to hit and kill at such range but it is effectively unopposed. The gun's aiming line can be used as a reference since it ends at exactly 39m, the gun's optimal range. The player should always remain in this ideal range and not let enemies get closer as the Omen is at a clear disadvantage at closer ranges. It is also ill suited for nighttime combat.

Trivia

  • The Omen is visually similar to the KRR3-792 Auger, possessing a similar bolt and magazine and suggesting a shared development history. Strangely, the Omen appears to have a longer barrel than the Auger despite the Auger having superior range.
  • The rifle seems to be based on the early patterns of Lee-Enfield "Long Lee" British service rifle or possibly its predecessor, the Lee-Metford Rifle.
