Widely considered to be the first storm rifle, the Aalto is a marvel in Caoivish engineering. With its two fire modes, it can be used as a rapid-fire assault weapon, or an mid-range rifle.
In-game description

The Aalto Storm Rifle 24 (simply known as an Aalto) is a selective-fire Warden Assault Rifle that uses 7.92mm magazines as ammunition.

Description

It is a Warden 7.92mm primary weapon with two firing modes toggled with F: semi-automatic (S) and automatic (A). It is relatively heavy (215), has a 25-round magazine and a quick reload. It loses stability relatively slowly while moving or not at all if aiming and walking.

In automatic mode it has medium damage (35-52 SubtypeSBIcon.png), high fire rate (240 rounds/min), and medium range (20m effective, 40m max). It has mediocre accuracy and low recoil. It is best suited for close to mid-range encounters, killing in three shots within its effective range (extremely rarely in two) and outperforming Submachine Guns.

In semi-automatic mode the gun has a higher recoil, lower fire rate (96 rounds/min) but better damage (42-63 SubtypeSBIcon.png), accuracy, and range (21-40). It is best suited for medium to long-range engagements (25-30m), behaving like a slightly worse Blakerow 871 rifle. A stable firing position is recommended in this mode.

The Soldier Uniform reduces the gun's weight by 25%.

It does not stack in the player's inventory (1 per slot).

Must be fully researched in the Weapons and Structures IconFilterWeaponsStructures.png Tech Tree in order to be produced.

Mass Production Factory orders must have at least 3 crates.

Storage

It does not stack in structure or vehicle inventories (1 per slot). It can only be stored in the stockpile of Bases (32k max).
Crates of Aalto Storm Rifle 24 can be directly submitted to any item stockpile that accepts that item to transfer their content. The crates can also be stored in the crate stockpiles of Storage Depots (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Seaports (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Shipping Containers (60), or Storage Ships (1000).

It can be transported by almost any vehicle with inventory slots. However it is much more efficient to transport it in bulk amounts as crates, either delivering them to a Base's stockpile with a Truck or to a crate stockpile with shipping vehicles carrying Shipping Containers.

Tactics

Players should use the automatic mode by default and only switch to semi-auto when necessary. High rate of fire generally beats accurate fire.

Triva

  • The Aalto Storm Rifle design appears to be inspired by several real life rifles.
    • The general "pipe" look resembles that of the British Sten, particularly the Sten Mk 2 (front sections of the barrel) and the Sten Mk V (wooden stock and handle).
    • The furniture and receiver could be based on the Finnish Lahti-Saloranta M/26.
  • Prior to the introduction of faction-specific small arms in 0.42 Winter Army, the Aalto Storm rifle was also used by the Colonials, and was simply referred to as a "Storm rifle". The weapon's stats, however, were identical.
  • The weapon's name is Finnish for "wave", which is also commonly used as a surname.
    • Usually, a Finnish naming scheme implies a weapon to be of Nevish origin. However, just like it's predecesor the Sampo Auto-Rifle 77, the Aalto is actually a Caoivish design.
