Gas Grenade
This article is timeless and should be accurate for any version of the game.
“ | Green Ash is an asphyxiating toxin. Inhaling it without protection will result in a quick death. Be sure to wear a gas mask with fresh filters when handling Green Ash. | „ |
— In-game description |
The Green Ash Grenade is a throwable Gas Grenade that creates a poisonous cloud of green gas.
Uses
Specifications
It is either thrown by hand to a maximum range of 19 meters or launched from grenade launchers. It has a 4 second fuse.
Upon detonation, it creates a gas cloud in a 7 meter radius that lasts for 7 seconds. The cloud apply its effect every 2 seconds to every soldier in range, even players inside structures or vehicles (except Submarines). If a player is wearing a Gas Mask with a non empty Filter, the cloud drains 15% of the filter every 2 seconds. Without a working gas mask, players receive 30 damage every 2 second and may get the bleeding status.
The gas effect does not stack, throwing multiple Gas Grenades simultaneously at the same spot won't be more effective than a single one.
It does not stack in the player's inventory (1 per slot) except when wearing a Grenade Uniform (stacks of 2 per slot)
Its weight is reduced by 25% with a Grenade Uniform.
Usage
To throw the Green Ash Grenade:
- Hold down
RMB
. The grenade's trajectory is visible. - Press
LMB
to throw it.
You can also hold LMB
to cook it, making it explode earlier, therefore not giving the enemy time to react. But if you hold it too long, it can explode in your hand!
After the throw, if a grenade of the same type exists in the backpack, it will automatically be equipped.
Alternatively, it can be launched from grenade launchers for a longer range.
Users
The following infantry weapons, vehicles, and structures use Gas Grenade:
Production
Structure | Input(s) | Output | Time |
---|---|---|---|
Factory (Small Arms) | 140 x Basic Materials | Crate of 5 x Green Ash Grenade | 00:01:40 |
Mass Production Factory (Small Arms) | 140 x Basic Materials | Crate of 5 x Green Ash Grenade | 00:16:40 |
Must be fully researched in the Weapons and Structures Tech Tree in order to be produced.
Storage
It does not stack in structure or vehicle inventories (1 per slot) except in ammo slots dedicated to it (varying stack sizes). It can be stored in stockpiles of Bases (32k max).
Crates of Green Ash Grenade can be directly submitted to any item stockpile that accepts that item to transfer their content. The crates can also be stored in the crate stockpiles of Storage Depots (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Seaports (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Shipping Containers (60), or Storage Ships (1000).
It can be transported by almost any vehicle with inventory slots. However it is much more efficient to transport it in bulk amounts as crates, either delivering them to a Base's stockpile with a Truck or to a crate stockpile with shipping vehicles carrying Shipping Containers.
Tips
- Green Ash is particularly useful against enemy infantry garrisoned in structures, inside trenches, or inside a vehicle
- The grenade's large area and duration is excellent for area denial, especially at choke points
Trivia
- The Green Ash Grenade resembles the American Mk. II KJ gas grenade
- It is currently the only damaging weapon that can proactively countered by wearing Gas Masks with Filters in them
- While beneficial to all soldiers, it is only logistically viable for armored vehicle crews
- While the Green Ash Grenade is the only weapon in the game that uses the "Poisonous Gas" damage type, it originally wasn't the only one
- Gas Artillery Shells used to act very similar to Green Ash Grenades, except they were loaded into Artillery pieces and fired
- This was quickly removed from the game due for balance reasons, as it made spawn-killing (i.e. firing massive amounts of Gas Shells on a Town Hall, which would quickly kill anyone inside of it) very easily
