In-game description

The Fiddler Submachine Gun Model 868 (simply known as a Fiddler) is a Warden Submachine Gun. It uses 9mm as ammunition.

Description

It is a Warden automatic 9mm primary weapon with low damage (27-40 SubtypeSBIcon.png), high rate of fire (240 rounds/min), medium range (22m effective, 40m max), and 25 round magazine. it has relatively bad accuracy and low recoil. It has very low stability loss from movements. Walking in a straight line doesn't make it lose any stability and short sprints only have a small impact. Combined with its very light weight (80), high fire rate, and quick reload, the gun excels at close-quarters combat. It kills in 3 or 4 shots within its effective range.

The Soldier Uniform reduces the gun's Weight by 25%.

It does not stack in the player's inventory (1 per slot).

Storage

It does not stack in structure or vehicle inventories (1 per slot). It can only be stored in the stockpile of Bases (32k max).
Crates of Fiddler Submachine Gun Model 868 can be directly submitted to any item stockpile that accepts that item to transfer their content. The crates can also be stored in the crate stockpiles of Storage Depots (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Seaports (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Shipping Containers (60), or Storage Ships (1000).
It can be transported by almost any vehicle with inventory slots. However it is much more efficient to transport it in bulk amounts as crates, either delivering them to a Base's stockpile with a Truck or to a crate stockpile with shipping vehicles carrying Shipping Containers.

Tactics

The Fiddler excels in close-quarter combat and has the means to close in on its target quickly without sacrificing stability. The recommended use for the gun is clear: stay lightweight to move fast and close the distance with your target before firing. You can even close in on your target while shooting.

The gun is especially useful at night and in urban combat. It's also one of the best firearms for assaulting trenches.

It is also a great tool to suppress soldiers and defences. For defences, make sure to find a good position to stabilize your accuracy as your bullets need to hit to help suppress a defence.

When shooting continuously while standing and without cover, the gun will reach its lowest accuracy after only 8 bullets.

Although it still deals some damage past 23m, the bullets will struggle to connect due to the gun's low stability after firing a few bullets. If you are forced to engage targets beyond 20m you will absolutely need to utilize cover to retain your max accuracy. Past 29m, the mediocre accuracy of the gun makes hitting enemy infantry nearly impossible. One consequence of this is that you cannot fight against rifles at their effective range (28m) no matter how good your position is.

Trivia

  • Prior to the introduction of faction-specific small arms in Update 0.42, the Fiddler was the standard SMG used by both factions, simply being titled "SMG".
  • The number "868" may refer to the weapon's year of introduction.
  • The old Fiddler SMG icon had an unmistakable look of the German MP-40, however, its in-game model looked more like the Yugoslavian M56.
    • This was eventually updated, so that the icon was more in-line with the in-game model, which is distinguished by the curved magazine.
