In-game description

The KRN886-127 Gast Machine Gun (simply known as a Gast) is a Colonial Machine Gun that uses 12.7mm ammunition.

Description

The KRN886-127 Gast Machine Gun is a Colonial automatic 12.7mm primary weapon with high damage (55-82 Heavy Kinetic), fast fire rate (240 round/min), long range (27m effective, 40m maximum), large magazine (75 rounds), and a heavy weight (200). It massively slows down the player when held in hands. It can only be fired in the crouched or prone stance or if the player has cover in front of them to rest the gun on. It is fairly accurate and very stable, only losing accuracy slowly if fired from a crouched position without cover.

Against infantry, its high firepower and range makes it dominate over all other small arms.

It is good at suppressing garrisoned structures, infantry, and exposed vehicle gunners.

It is very effective against unarmoured vehicles. It can be a threat to light armoured vehicles but will rarely have the opportunity to kill them since it'd require multiple magazines. However, it's very ineffective against heavy armoured vehicles, such as Tanks or Field Weapons, and against ships.

With its 12.7mm rounds, it is able to destroy certain low tier structures.

The Soldier Uniform reduces the Gast's weight by 25%.

It does not stack in the player's inventory (1 per slot).

Mass Production Factory orders must have at least 3 crates.

Storage

It does not stack in structure or vehicle inventories (1 per slot). It can only be stored in the stockpile of Bases (32k max).
Crates of KRN886-127 Gast Machine Gun can be directly submitted to any item stockpile that accepts that item to transfer their content. The crates can also be stored in the crate stockpiles of Storage Depots (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Seaports (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Shipping Containers (60), or Storage Ships (1000).
It can be transported by almost any vehicle with inventory slots. However it is much more efficient to transport it in bulk amounts as crates, either delivering them to a Base's stockpile with a Truck or to a crate stockpile with shipping vehicles carrying Shipping Containers.

Tactics

The gun does really well when attacking enemies, covering friendly infantry, or suppressing enemy structures. With its limited mobility, the player should be careful not to tunnel vision and make sure they're not getting flanked.

Given the gun's massive slowdown when held, the player should always switch to their secondary when they want to move.

Trivia

  • The KRN886-127 Gast Machine Gun looks very similar to the Browning M2 Machine Gun and Browning M1919 Machine Gun series of weapons.
  • Though easily mistaken for the Germanic word "Geist" meaning a ghost or spirit, the term gast is the Frankophonic ancestor of the english noun "Waste" and has the same meaning; a place where life cannot exist.
  • The "886" in the Gast's name likely refers to its year of introduction.
  • The Gast uses a modified version of the model used by the Machine Gun available to both factions prior to Update 0.42. The grip and bipod of the weapon are repurposed from the 20 Neville Anti-Tank Rifle used by the Wardens, although the Neville's signature bipod skis are cut down.
