Coal is a raw resource specially designed to be refined into Coke, or used as fuel for Trains.
Acquisition
Coal Field 
Coal can be acquired by mining the nodes on a Coal Field with a Hammer, Sledge Hammer or a Harvester. Each field starts with 30 nodes spawned on the ground and 250 more in reserve. Each node yields around 270 Coal, meaning that each field contains about 67,500. When a node is harvested, one from the reserve replaces it a few seconds later. You can check the status of a field by walking up to the large unminable central piece and pressing E, or by hovering over its icon on the map. Once empty, a field resets after an hour or two.
Unlike Salvage, Components, and Sulfur there is no World Resource Mine for Coal.

Storage
Like other raw resources coal can be stored in Resource Container and Resource Transfer Stations. It can be transported by Truck, Container Car, or Small Container Car. It can't be packed into crates
