This page is timeless and should be accurate for any version of Foxhole.

All Players in Foxhole control a nameless soldier fighting in the Foxhole Universe, taking part in a massive war between two opposing factions.

Server & Faction

If there are currently multiple servers (called Shards) available, the Player can select the desired Shard in the top right corner in the main menu. They can play on different shards without issues.

When a Player first logs in during a new war they must commit to one of two factions: the Colonials or the Wardens. Commiting to a faction bounds the Player to it for the entire duration of that war which lasts 3 to 5 weeks on average. There is a 6 MINUTE grace period of in-game time after committing to a faction where the Player can log out and back in to switch to the other faction. If there are multiple Shards available, the Player can join a faction on one shard and the other faction on another (except if they are in a Regiment).

Deployment

When the player enters the game they start in the Home Region, a separate tutorial Region. They must deploy to the world to join the fight via the menu of the deployment area.

Appearance

The player's appearance can be changed on the Home Region in the interface of any Barracks (press E to open). The player can switch between male and female physique, and different skin tones.

Male and Female options

The five skin tone options

Equipping a different uniform also changes the soldier's look.

The player's name, rank, and Regiment name appear above their head in green (yellow/orange for squad members) to all allies that can see them. For enemies, this appears in red and only when the player is very close. In the Chat window, Player names and regiment tag are displayed before each message, but not their rank.

Squad members names appear in pale yellow and Squad Leader name in orange, instead of green.

Organizing

Rank

The player gains commend points by doing certain beneficial actions. They can award those to other players to slowly increase their Rank. A player's Rank has very few gameplay consequences. Doing beneficial actions also slowly increases the player's own Level.

Regiment

A player can join one Regiment.

Squad

A player can join Squads to coordinate with other players in the game. Squads are joined via the Squad menu on the right side of the screen. A Player can be in up to four Squads simultaneously, but only one can be the active Squad at a given moment.

Health

A player has 100 Health points. However there is no visible health bar, instead the game shows health visually via the amount of bloodstains on the Player. When receiving damage, the Player can be staggered or start bleeding. Player injuries can be healed with a First Aid Kit. When out of health points, the Player either dies or becomes Wounded and drops to the ground. A Wounded player can be revived with a Trauma Kit. If not revived for 30s the Player dies and is sent to the Death screen where they can choose to Respawn somewhere after a while.

For more details about health, see Health.

  3. Tertiary Equipment - Alligator Charge, Bandages, First Aid Kit, Fuel cans, Ignifist 30, and all Grenades.

  5. Headgear - Gas Mask
  6. Uniform - Uniform
  7. Extra Equipment - Radio, Radio Backpack, or Flamethrower Ammo
  8. Large Item - Critically Wounded Soldiers, large shells, Tripods, etc.

Backpack

The Backpack section of the inventory contains all unequipped items carried by the player. It has a limited amount of slots which varies depending on the Uniform worn. The Backpack inventory can be sorted by clicking the "Sort Inventory" InventorySortingIcon.png button above it.

Starting Gear

Upon deploying or respawning, the player starts out equipped with a Hammer, a Soldier Uniform, an unloaded Pistol (Ferro 879 or Ahti Model 2) and with two 8mm magazines in their Backpack. When interacting with a Base the player can submit this starting gear (except the uniform) by clicking the "Submit Starter Kit" BtSubmitStarter.png button at the bottom.

Death Drop

Upon death, all items on a Player except their Uniform is dropped on the ground in the form of a visible Backpack (Backpack model differs for each Faction). Any carried Large Item is dropped separately. The backpack can be looted by other players but despawns after a while.

Loadouts

When in the menu of a Base, Players can create Loadouts using the "Save Loadout" BtLoadoutSaveIcon.png button at the bottom to remember the set of all items they have equipped and in their Backpack. With the "Assemble Loadout" BtLoadoutAssembleIcon.png button Players can retrieve all items from one of their saved Loadouts in a single click.

Weight

All equipment and items held by the player increase their total Weight. Mud IconStatusMuddy.png accumulating on the Player also increases their weight. The player's current weight can be viewed by putting the mouse cursor on the weight IconStatusEncumbered.png icon at the top of the inventory menu. Having a lot of weight incurs an Encumbrance penalty that reduces the player's Stamina regeneration and increases Stamina drain when sprinting. With too much weight the Player becomes "Overencumbered" Encumbered Red.png which greatly reduces their Movement Speed and Stamina regeneration and prevents them from entering vehicles.

World Interactions

The player can interact with nearby structures, vehicles, and certain world elements by pressing E. The currently available interaction is displayed in the bottom left corner of the screen. If multiple interactions exist the player can press Shift+E to open the Context Menu to choose one.

The Player can enter vehicles and certain structures by pressing Q.

Large Items can be picked up from the ground by pressing V. They can be submitted somewhere with V or dropped with Shift+V.

In the menu of vehicles or structures, the player can retrieve or submit an item to the inventory with LMB. The player can also retrieve items from the Stockpile with LMB after a short assembling animation.
