Versioning

This article is considered accurate for the current version (1.56) of the game.

An auto-firing rifle that played a pivotal role in maintaining Mesean interests on the Katoman continent. While not quite as rapid-firing as its assault rifle bretheren, many soldiers speak fondly of the Catena as a sturdy, easy-to-use, and reliable firearm. It doesn't boast high points in any particular area but performs admirably as a general-purpose rifle.
In-game description

The Catena rt.IV Auto-Rifle (simply known as a Catena) is a Colonial automatic rifle. It is capable of firing 7.62mm rounds in slow succession without needing to let go of the trigger.

Description

The Catena rt.IV Auto-Rifle is a Colonial automatic rifle, designed to allow the player sustained fire over a period of time. Unlike most rifles, it excels at sustained barrages, adequate for assaulting large groups of enemies where the best tactical decision is to slow the enemy's advance through sheer volume of fire, rather than outright killing them.

Despite this ability, it does not particularly excel in certain areas, and is more suited for complementing other infantry weapons than being used by itself.

Tactics

The Catena rt.IV Auto-Rifle is a moderately heavy rifle, which slightly slows down the user more than an Argenti r.II Rifle. Unlike the Colonial's standard rifle, its not particularly good at pushing enemy positions, as its decreased movement speed makes the user an easier target for enemy fire.

Due to this, it works best as a defensive tool, suppressing and eliminating advancing enemy troops from entrenched positions (trenches, behind walls, etc.). While attacking enemy positions isn't ideal for the weapon, skilled users can use its higher rate-of-fire to advantage to down, or outright kill entrenched enemies.
