— In-game description |
The Shovel is a utility item used to build certain structures and transform the landscape at no material cost.
Use
When equipped, the Shovel has two modes that can be switched by pressing F
; Build Mode, and Upgrade Mode.
Build Mode lets you access the build menu by pressing B
. In this menu, you will get to select any buildable structure, which you then place down as a blueprint.
The following structures can be built with a Shovel:
- Tier 1 Bunker and Bunker Corner
- Tier 1 Trenches, Trench Connector, and Trench Emplacement
- Dug Foxholes
Upgrade Mode lets you see the stats of any structure, as well as upgrading certain structures when pressing E
.
The following structures can be upgraded with a Shovel:
- Tier 1 Bunker and Trench Husks
- Craters
- Dug Foxholes
Whichever option you use, the Shovel will spawn the corresponding blueprint, which a player must dig out in order to have it permanently in the world.
Production
Structure | Input(s) | Output | Time |
---|---|---|---|
Factory (Utility) | 200 x Basic Materials | Crate of 10 x Shovel | 00:01:40 |
Storage
The Shovel does not stack in inventories.
It can be stored in Base stockpiles.
Shovel crates can be stored in the stockpile of a Storage Depot, Seaport, or Storage Ship. They can be submitted to any stockpile that accept Shovels to transfer their content into it.
Tactics
Shovels are a vital tool for frontlines, as they allow the construction of defensive structures, such as Bunkers and Trenches. However, they are also dangerous tools, as a trench initially used to push a front could be captured by the enemy, allowing them to gain ground and potentially cause extensive damage to your faction's defensive structures.
It is recommended to only use them when they are tactically beneficial.
Trivia
- The dirt that is thrown up while digging will be hidden when the player is in a bush
- The player model in the open beta period (before mid 2017) had a shovel on them
- The shovel on the old player model looked similar to the current shovel model used in the game
