KRR3-792 Auger
“ | A Kraunian rifle modified for long-range engagements. It doesn’t have the range or stopping power of other marksman rifles but more than makes up for it with unmatched reliability in a range of environments and a superior effective rate of fire. | „ |
— In-game description |
The KRR3-792 Auger (simply known as an Auger) is a Colonial Sniper Rifle. It uses 7.62mm as ammunition.
Description
It is a Colonial 7.62mm primary weapon with high damage (69-103 ), slow fire rate (30 rounds/min), extreme range (54m effective, 59m max), and a 10 round magazine. It is extremely accurate and has a high recoil. It very rarely downs its target in a single shot within its effective range, the second longest of all firearms. Its accuracy is extremely slow to stabilize even with a stable position. Its practical fire rate is around 11.1 rounds/min when prone (11.8 with added full cover). It gains very little stability from cover unlike most firearms, thus making its use in the standing position very slow. Any movement significantly impacts the gun's stability.
It significantly slows the player when wielded. It cannot be fired while standing without cover or from an Landing APC or Barge.
It stabilizes faster than its Warden counterpart but has a lower range and damage.
The Soldier Uniform reduces the gun's Weight by 25%.
It does not stack in the player's inventory (1 per slot).

Must be fully researched in the Weapons and Structures Tech Tree in order to be produced.
Mass Production Factory orders must have at least 3 crates.
Storage
It does not stack in structure or vehicle inventories (1 per slot). It can only be stored in the stockpile of Bases (32k max).
Crates of KRR3-792 Auger can be directly submitted to any item stockpile that accepts that item to transfer their content. The crates can also be stored in the crate stockpiles of Storage Depots (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Seaports (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Shipping Containers (60), or Storage Ships (1000).
It can be transported by almost any vehicle with inventory slots. However it is much more efficient to transport it in bulk amounts as crates, either delivering them to a Base's stockpile with a Truck or to a crate stockpile with shipping vehicles carrying Shipping Containers.
Tactics
With its long range, the gun is the best choice to kill enemy machinegunners with impunity. Tank commanders are also desirable targets, but can be difficult to engage if their vehicle is moving. Due to the gun's weight, very slow stabilization, and meager cover bonus, firing from a prone position with or without cover is the most efficient. Firing from a standing position behind cover, like in a Trench, is possible but not recommended as you'll have very low stability. Given the vulnerability of the prone position, an elevated or hidden position can increase your survivability.
Due to the heavy movement penalty when the auger is equipped, it's better to switch to your secondary weapon when you want to move.
Given that it gains little stability from cover and that being inside a structure puts you in the crouched position, using the rifle from inside any garrisonable structure (i.e. Pillbox, etc...) gives you a slower fire rate than just being prone on the ground.
Trivia
- Prior to Update 0.48, all sniper rifles were chambered with 8.5mm ammunition, which was only used in sniper rifles. This was changed in order to standardized ammunition and allow the greater use of sniper rifles.
- The auger bears some resemblance to a M1903A4 Springfield Rifle with a USMC Unertl style scope.
- The "792" in the auger's full designation could be a reference to its year of introduction. The Omen - which bears a striking resemblance to the auger - seems to use a similar nomenclature.
