This article is timeless and should be accurate for any version of the game.

A medium grade fuel that's refined from Oil. Used as a higher end fuel for vehicles and in various applications at Facilities.
In-game description

Petrol is a liquid resource in a 50L canister. It is one of the two main fuel types in Foxhole, alongside Diesel.

Uses

Usage

  1. Put the canister in your tertiary slot
  2. Equip it with 3
  3. Hold LMB near the target.

The canister's weight changes proportionally to how much liquid is left in it.

Fuel

It is used to refuel most vehicles, giving them 10% faster speed and better acceleration than with Diesel. All vehicles that use Petrol can also use Diesel.

Unlike Diesel, Petrol cannot fuel Fire Pits or Engine Rooms.

Storage

As a liquid resource, the Petrol canister does not stack in inventories (1 per slot). It can be stored in the stockpiles of Bases (32k max), Small Liquid Container Cars (50), Liquid Containers (100), Liquid Transfer Stations (500), and Rooster - Lamploader Trailer (25). It cannot be submitted into a stockpile if the canister is not full.
When a canister is full, it can be crated (need stack of 1 per crate) and uncrated with the right click context menu while interfacing a Seaport, Storage Depot, or Shipping Container.
Crates of Petrol can be directly submitted to any item stockpile that accepts that item to transfer their content. The crates can also be stored in the crate stockpiles of Storage Depots (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Seaports (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Shipping Containers (60), or Storage Ships (1000).

It can be transported by almost any vehicle with inventory slots, but is most commonly transported by Fuel Tankers, Small Liquid Container Cars, and shipping vehicles carrying Liquid Containers. The liquid can also be delivered by Pipelines. Delivering it in crate form is possible but much less efficient.

Trivia

  • Petrol was introduced in Update 0.26 ('War Machine'), along with the rework of fueling.
  • The design of the petrol can appears to be inspired by British 2-Gallon stamped steel fuel can, which also featured a larger 4-Gallon version known as the "Flimsy".
  • Prior to Update 1.50 ('Inferno'), Petrol cans used to hold 100L, before being changed to 50L.
    • This change was a larger logistical overhaul, which made Petrol easier to obtain, but required more logistical infrastructure in the form of Facilities.
