The Tinderbox is a simple car used for transporting liquids between facilities.
In-game description

The BMS Tinderbox (also known as a Small Liquid Container Car) is an early-game logistical small train car designed to transport large quantities of liquid resources along Small Gauge Railway Tracks.

General Info

Crew

The BMS Tinderbox houses a crew of one soldier:

  • Operator (Seat 1)
    • Able to deposit the car's stockpile contents (not inventory) into a nearby stockpile - press LMB
    • Unable to accurately deposit their contents into a specific structure
    • Players can enter from left or right side of car but only exit from the side with the small platform. Special care must be taken when entering as it may not be possible to leave due to obstruction.

Armament

The BMS Tinderbox is not equipped with a main armament.

Inventory

It has 1 inventory slot, and a Stockpile that can only hold up to 50 liquid resources:

Interactions

  • Couple two cars together - hold Shift + E and press Couple Cars (they must be touching/close together)
  • Decouple two connected cars - requires a Wrench used in the area between the two cars
  • Can have its stockpile contents (not inventory) directly submitted into a nearby stockpile by the Operator
    • This includes any structure or vehicle with a stockpile that can accept the particular content (Bases, Liquid Transfer Station, Liquid Container, certain facility structures, Rooster - Lamploader Trailer, another Small Liquid Container Car, etc...)
    • To successfully submit, the target must be on either side of the Small Liquid Container Car and less than 3 meters away. If multiple targets exist only the closest one is checked.
  • Its stockpile can be accessed by a small train locomotive when interacting with structures/stockpiles
  • Refuels nearby structures and vehicles - only applies to nearby entities (depending whether they have the correct fuel)
    • The structure/vehicle that wants to be refuelled must click the refuel button - able to be canceled with another button
    • Visually shows refueling with a hose connecting them - will stop refueling if they are too far away
A train can have up to 5 cars connected, Locomotive(s) included.

Storage & Transport

The BMS Tinderbox cannot be stored in a Storage Depot, Seaport or Storage Ship.

It can be packaged into a medium Shippable and transported by any Shipping Vehicle (Crane, Flatbed Truck, Barge, Freighter, Storage Ship, Landing Ships, Flatbed Car, or Large Crane).

Tactics

The BMS Tinderbox should only be used in logistical tasks, where the transportation and collection of large quantities of items, materials, and resources are required. Additionally, these types of vehicles should be only be used in backlines and midline regions, and as far away from frontline combat.

Due to its means of transportation, it is very limited to where it can move, especially since small gauge railway tracks cannot move between hexes. It is highly recommended to keep their movements limited and in small, manageable areas.

It is an essential part of the facility gameplay loop if the facility is transporting massive quantities of liquids, as this is the only train car that can do so. This is especially useful when operating facilities with Oil Refineries, or ones that use liquid-based power generators like the Diesel Power Plants (or with a Petrol Plant upgrade), or the Power Stations with no water sources nearby.

It's one of the few vehicles not to appear as triangles on Map Intelligence.

Trivia

  • The BMS Tinderbox was added in Update 1.52, which overhauled a lot of facility aspects. Its introduction was a multi-step process to remedy various facility issues, such as extracting large amounts of liquids that were backlogged in facility stockpiles (specifically Oil Refineries).
