“ | Industrial piping that allows for automatic transport of various liquids and fuels into a network of pipes that connect to various facility structures. | „ |
— In-game description |
The Pipeline segment is a structure that connects to other pipeline segments, Fuel Silos, and Facilities to transfer liquid resources automatically. Other segment types are: Pipeline (Underground), Pipeline (Overhead), Pipeline Valve, Fuel Silo.
Construction
It is built with a Pipe Large Material and costs only one. A single pipeline segment can have a length between 3 and 20 meters. The Tier 2 Facility technology must be unlocked to build it.
Pipeline segments can be attached to each other either at their ends or at their center, similar to trenches. They can also be attached to various Facility inlet and outlet. The pipeline blueprint automatically snap to viable connection points, you can hold Shift
to disable it.
Modifications
It can be upgraded to be insulated at a cost of one Pipe to prevent the segment from freezing during Snow Storms.
Reservation
The original builder can reserve it for a Squad for 52 hours in the menu to prevent non-members from modifying it. The reservation can be refreshed by any squad member. If the reservation expires, the structure can never be reserved again.
Liquid Filter
A pipeline segment and its network can be restricted to only allow a specific liquid type using the "Cycle Liquid Filter" button in its menu (pipeline must be empty).
Demolition
The original builder, and squad members if reserved, can instantly demolish it if it was built less than 28 days ago. The materials used in the construction and upgrades are refunded and dropped under the player.
Destruction
It is immune to Friendly Fire but it can be flagged for "Disruptive Structure Placement" to remove the immunity (5 "votes" needed).
Actions Log
You can view the Action Logs to check the modifications done to it.
Use
You can access its interface when on foot by pressing E
near the segment's end that was placed first during its construction. The interface indicates the type of liquid in the pipe and a gauge shows how full it is.
Liquid Storage
A single Pipeline segment can hold 100L of a given liquid (no mixing possible).
Pipeline Network
With the other connected pipeline segments, it forms pipeline networks that automatically transfer liquids.
Pipe Flow
In a linear pipeline, a segment transfers up to 50L of its liquid per second and evenly distributes it to every pipeline segments directly connected to it. The lack of flow direction means that in a given direction every next pipe has 1/2 the amount of fluid in it, though this is often not a problem as the backflow makes its way back to the front slowly. This only becomes a noticeable problem once the backflow fills a pipe completely, rendering it impossible for new fluid to make its way into the clogged pipe. Backflow can be solved by placing Fuel Silos regularly along large pipelines.
Pipe Draining
A reserved pipeline can be drained to remove all liquid of the type stored in this pipe from the connected network, allowing new liquids to flow through it.
