An entrenched machine gun manned by stationed troops.
In-game description

The Machine Gun Garrison is a player-built defensive Bunker modification that automatically fires at enemies with a machine gun when garrisoned. It can be upgraded for better health and stronger resistance.

Construction

A Tier 1 Machine Gun Garrison can be built by modifying any Tier 1 Bunker with a Hammer and 75 Basic Materials if it has the following requirements:

The direction of the gun is chosen by moving the Mouse scroll vertical.png while your cursor is on the Machine Gun Garrison option of the upgrade menu.

During placement its firing arc and range are shown.

Installing that modification decreases (0.89) the Structural Integrity of its Bunker Network.

Tier 2

A Tier 2 Machine Gun Garrison can be constructed by modifying a Tier 2 Bunker with a Hammer and 100 Basic Materials or by upgrading a Tier 2 Machine Gun Garrison if the connected Bunker Base has unlocked the Defensive Garrisons (Tier 2) InfantryGarrisons02.png upgrade

Tier 3

A Tier 3 Machine Gun Garrison is built by modifying a dry Tier 3 Bunker or by upgrading a Tier 2 Machine Gun Garrison (the latter being cheaper overall) with 15 Concrete Materials if the connected Bunker Base has unlocked the Defensive Garrisons (Tier 3) InfantryGarrisons03.png upgrade. The concrete requires 24 hours to dry (longer if there is a Snow Storm or Rain Storm) during which the structure already works but is more vulnerable.

Reconstruction

When destroyed, it leaves behind a husk that can be either destroyed or rebuilt. Reconstruction uses the same tool and materials as the construction of its current tier and has the same requirements. It cannot be rebuilt if it is connected by trenches & bunkers to an enemy Bunker Base. The reconstruction restores all small modifications and infrastructure modifications installed inside.

Use

Garrison

When its Garrison is active (large flag on top), it automatically fires a 12.7mm machine gun on any enemy vehicle, infantry, and structures within 31.5 meters (33.5m from its center) in a 90 degree firing arc. It takes 2.5 seconds to reach its maximum fire rate (400 rounds/min) and accuracy. Similar to player vision, its detection range is reduced at night (down to 15m at midnight, measured from the structure's center). If fired upon it immediately locks on and fires at the shooter for 6.5 seconds if there's a line of sight, ignoring its night vision limitation. Its retaliation range is only limited by its caliber, the 12.7mm bullets starts dealing less damage past 27 meters and no damage past 43 meters. If the shooter was in a vehicle/structure and dismounts the retaliation fire keeps targeting their old seat in the vehicle/structure and not the shooter now on foot. If a Machine Gun Garrison is attached to other bunkers it will only retaliate if actual damage is dealt (e.g. not small arms) but will also retaliate if a connected bunker is damaged.

The garrison has infinite ammunition.

Its garrison can be suppressed, but it's harder the higher the tier.

Spotlight:
Tier 2 and Tier 3 Machine Gun Garrisons have a spotlight on top of them. It turns on if the Bunker Network has any amount of Reserve Power ReservePower.png stored and allows the garrison to get +33% to their vision range (not firing range) at night and during Snow Storms. Visually, the spotlight automatically follows enemies in range. Each spotlight consumes 0.001 Reserve Power per minute while on during the game's night time (6PM to 6AM), meaning a consumption of just 0.72 Reserve Power per (real) day. Note that powering the spotlight is not the same thing as activating the defense's AI!

Defensive Position

One friendly player can get inside it from underneath by pressing Keyboard q.png. While inside they cannot be injured by anything except Gas Grenades or heat. They can fire with their equipped weapon in the limited firing arc unless the garrison is suppressed, but they cannot use the structure's machine gun. They instantly die if the bunker is destroyed.

Resistance

At Tier 1 it is immune to small arms and fragmentation grenades, but not to 12.7mm machine gun fire or heavier explosives. At Tier 2 it becomes immune to 12.7mm machine gun fire. At Tier 3 it becomes pretty resistant to most heavier explosives.
