The Machine Gun Garrison is a player-built defensive Bunker modification that automatically fires at enemies with a machine gun when garrisoned. It can be upgraded for better health and stronger resistance.

An entrenched machine gun manned by stationed troops.
In-game description

Defense

It is immune to small arms and fragmentation grenades, but not to 12.7mm machine gun fire or heavier explosives.

When its garrison is active (large flag on top), it automatically fires a 12.7mm machine gun on any enemy vehicle, infantry, and structures within 31.5 meters (33.5m from its center) in a 90 degree firing arc. It takes 2.5 seconds to reach its maximum fire rate (400 rounds/min) and accuracy. Similar to player vision, its detection range is reduced at night unless its bunker is powered. If fired upon it immediately locks on and fires at the shooter for 6.5 seconds if there's a line of sight, ignoring its night vision limitation. Its retaliation range is only limited by its caliber, the 12.7mm bullets starts dealing less damage past 27 meters and no damage past 43 meters. If the shooter was in a vehicle/structure and dismounts the retalation fire keeps targeting their old seat in the vehicle/structure and not the shooter now on foot. If a Machine Gun Garrison is attached to other bunkers it will only retaliate if actual damage is dealt (e.g. not small arms) but will also retaliate if a connected bunker is damaged.

The garrison has infinite ammunition.

Its garrison can be suppressed.

One friendly player can get inside it from underneath by pressing Q. While inside they cannot be injured by anything except Gas Grenades or heat. They can fire with their equipped weapon in the limited firing arc unless the garrison is suppressed, but they cannot use the structure's machine gun. They instantly die if the bunker is destroyed.

Construction

A Tier 1 Machine Gun Garrison can be constructed by modifying a Tier 1 Bunker with the following requirements:

You can either modify an existing Bunker of a given tier to a Machine Gun Garrison of that tier with a Hammer in Upgrade Mode, or you can upgrade an existing Machine Gun Garrison to the next tier.

The direction of the gun is chosen by moving the Mouse Wheel while your cursor is on the Machine Gun option of the Hammer's upgrade menu.

Modifying a Tier 3 bunker into a Tier 3 machine gun garrison is more expensive than upgrading a tier 2 machine gun garrison into tier 3 as you will need to spend Concrete Materials twice overall.

The Tier 1 Machine Gun Garrison modification greatly decreases the Structural Integrity of its bunker.

During placement its firing range is shown.

Defense

It is immune to small arms, fragmentation grenades, and 12.7mm machine gun fire. It's also pretty resistant to most explosives.

If a Machine Gun Garrison is attached to other bunkers it will only retaliate if actual damage is dealt (e.g. not small arms) but will also retaliate if a connected bunker is damaged.

The garrison has infinite ammunition.

Its garrison can be suppressed, but it's harder than at Tier 2.

A Tier 3 Machine Gun Garrison can be constructed on any Tier 3 Bunker with the following requirements:

An existing Tier 2 Machine Gun Garrison canb also be upgraded to Tier 3 if it is connected (by trenches or bunkers) to a Bunker Base with the Concrete Structures Concrete Materials Icon.png upgrade. It's the cheaper method as you only spends Concrete Materials once overall.

The direction of the gun is chosen by moving the Mouse Wheel while your cursor is on the Machine Gun option of the Hammer's upgrade menu.

As a concrete structure, the Tier 3 Machine Gun Garrison takes 24 hours to dry, during which it is more vulnerable the wetter it is.

The Tier 3 Machine Gun Garrison modification very slightly decreases the Structural Integrity of its bunker.

During placement its firing range is shown.

Power

If a Machine Gun Garrison is powered with 600W, the spotlight on top of it turns on and allows the garrison to keep its full range during the night. Powering the defense does NOT activate its AI! The direction of the spotlight doesn't matter, when enemies are in range the spotlight follows them.
