A small base used as a jump-off point for invading enemy regions. Players can spawn and stockpile items here.
In-game description

A Border Base is a sturdy world structure that serves as a Home Base where players can deploy, respawn, and rearm. They only appear when a region border is contested (red line) to help an invading force gain a foothold into a region.

Construction

Border Bases are not built, they appear at predetermined locations near the locked down border, next to each roads that crosses it. They are always in pairs, with one on each side of the border.

They are claimed for a faction by pressing E on them. This can only be done when the following requirements are met:

  • The Border Base just spawned in or has been destroyed approximately 45-60 minutes ago or more
  • The "mirrored" border base on the other side is not claimed by the enemy
  • The region border is currently a frontier border (indicated by the red line)

Claiming a Border Base will also claim the mirrored border base on the other side. You can only use the border base on the enemy's side of the frontier border. The mirrored base on your side can't be used but prevents the enemy from claiming it. This means that when attacking an enemy border base you must destroy it on both sides or else you will not be able to claim if the border remains contested.

Border Bases you can claim show up as white icons MapIconBorderBase.png on the map (ignoring the 45-60min cooldown). The ones you can't claim won't show up. If the white icon disappears, it means the enemy claimed them.

The enemy having claimed a pair of border bases doesn't prevent you from claiming a different pair on the same frontier border.

After the region border stops being contested, the Border Bases still remain. But they will decay after 120 hours

Defense

Border Bases are very sturdy but relies on player built defenses to protect them.

They allow you to build structures within a 40m radius around them despite being close to the border and they won't suffer from fast Decay. Those structures can be Garrisoned by the Border Base with the right base upgrade.

Their stockpile starts with basic Rifles, 7.62mm ammo, Soldier Supplies, Basic Materials, HE Grenades, Sticky Bombs, Shovels, and Diesel. The amount that spawns depends on global population. It has the same resistance as concrete, meaning it takes a lot of firepower to destroy.

The Soldier Supplies in the base cannot be removed.

The flag on top of it indicates the activity of its Garrison and the wind direction.

Base Upgrades

Base Upgrades are additional functionalities that the base can unlock. They are slowly and automatically unlocked over time. Upgrades progress faster the more people assign their spawn to that base. A particular upgrade can be prioritized by voting for it in the menu of the Base if you've assigned your spawn there. Progression is sped up by things like supplying the base and building structures. You can check the base upgrades unlocked at a given Base by hovering your mouse over its icon on the map.

Trivia

  • Border Bases were added in Update 0.40 as a solution to preventing a faction from being unable to claim territory in an enemy region
    • While the community has raised some objections to them, the devs have stated that they are not fond of the mechanic as well, however it is the least painless solution to this problem
  • Border Bases do not have a player limit to them in terms of how many players can spawn there (i.e. 100 players can spawn there, even if there are 20 enemy players in that region)
    • This mechanic is supposed to allow territory to be gained, with the attacking faction being able to claim a World Base during that time
    • Once the attacking faction claims a World Base, the population balance mechanics kick in, where there is a limit to how many players can be in a region, and how long their respawn timers will be (i.e. 40 Wardens vs 20 Colonials in Region A with Wardens having 20 sec respawn timers, and Colonials having 10 sec respawn timers)
