Construction
This page is timeless and should be accurate for any version of Foxhole.
Players can build, rebuild, and upgrade a large variety of structures in the game using tools and materials.
Tools
Construction can only be done with the following tools:
- Hammer : default construction tool
- Shovel : Only to dig Trenches, Bunkers, Foxholes, and Prepared Minefields
- Construction Vehicle : for larger structures
- Advanced Construction Vehicle : for all CV built structures and certain Hammer built structures
- Large Material: for structures that are constructed with large materials
Build
Structures can be placed and built by players using a tool and some materials. Only the types of structures that already exist in the world ("World Structures") cannot be created by players, but they can rebuild them when they are destroyed.
Structure Selection
Placeable structures are listed in the player's build menu. The menu can be opened or closed by pressing B
. Its tabs can be selected with Left Click
or cycled through with A
and D
. Putting the cursor on a structure icon displays information about it: type, description, tool and materials required for construction. Structures with greyed out icons have not been researched yet. When a structure is selected with Left Click
a blueprint appears on the player's cursor.
Blueprint Placement
The structure blueprint can be rotated with Right Click + Mouse Movement
and placed on the cursor position with Left Click
(must be holding a building tool). Certain blueprints automatically attach to existing structures of the same type unless the player holds Shift
. For structures with variable shape and length the player must place the start and end position of the blueprint. Certain structure blueprints can have their curvature/inclination changed with Right Click + Mouse Movement
and Right Click + Mouse Wheel
, and their height or width changed with Mouse Wheel
alone. When placing a blueprint all controls available are listed in the bottom left of the screen.
The blueprint turns red if the current position is not valid.
Information is displayed on the blueprint during placement:
- Special requirements (if any)
- Feedback when position is invalid
- Whether the position is in range a supply source to prevent the structure's Decay
- Automated defense blueprints displays their line of sight and whether they are in range of a Garrison source to activate them
Structure blueprints cannot be placed within 60m from any region border unless they are within the 40m radius of a Border Base (except Fire Pit, Small Gauge Railway Track, and Railway Track). They also cannot be placed within 25m of an enemy World Base.
Build Site Construction
Placing the blueprint spawns a Build Site at the location. It disappears after 10 seconds if nothing is done. The Build Site is built using the required tool by pressing/holding Left Click
while next to it, with the required materials in the player's inventory (or vehicle's inventory). The majority of structures are built with Basic Materials. Up to 3 players can work on the same blueprint simultaneously (no limit for dug blueprints). For structures that require large materials, they are submitted one by one with LMB
or placed in the CV's inventory if structure can be built with a CV.
Once construction is started by submitting the first material the Build Site remains indefinitely until it's either finished or destroyed. Build Sites are easily destroyed, even with Small Arms, and any materials invested in the construction is lost.
Blueprint placement has a 10 seconds cooldown (to avoid spam).
The steps to build a Watch Tower
Decay
Player-placed structures start to take damage from Decay after a grace period of a few hours unless they are within range of a Base or Maintenance Tunnel stockpiled with Maintenance Supplies. Structures built between 60m and 150m from a region border suffer from rapid (x10) and unpreventable Decay. Repairing a decayed structure partially restart the grace period, proportionally to how much health the player repaired.
Rebuild
When world structures, Encampments, Facilities, Bunkers, and Trenches are destroyed they do not disappear but leave behind a husk that can be rebuilt. Equipping a building tool, switching it to "Upgrade Mode" with F
, and pressing E
on the husk will spawn a Build Site that is built normally with the required tool and materials.
Most world structures are rebuilt with a Construction Vehicle, however Bridges and Shipyards are rebuilt with a Hammer. Destroyed encampments, bunkers, and trenches are rebuilt with the tool used to build them.

Upgrade
Certain structures can be modified or upgraded. A structure's upgrade menu is accessed by equiping any building tool, switching it to "Upgrade Mode" with F
, and pressing E
on the structure. Putting the cursor on an upgrade icon displays information (description, building requirements) and shows a blueprint of the upgrade on the structure that the player can rotate or switch position with Mouse Wheel
(if applicable). After selecting the upgrade with Left Click
its Build Site is built normally with the required tool and materials.
Structures with a single upgrade option spawn the blueprint directly instead of opening an upgrade menu.
Certain small modifications for Trenches and Bunkers are built instantly after a short animation. They can be removed in exactly the same way they are built except the player presses Right Click
instead and the removal costs some Basic Materials, usually half the build cost.
Inspect
Aiming at a structure or blueprint with any building tool in "Upgrade Mode" (toggle with F
) displays information:
- Faction ownership
- Builder's name
- Remaining health percentage
- Type, distance, and direction of closest supply source (Decay prevention)
- If reserved for a Squad: Squad name and time remaining on the reservation
- For Bunkers and Trenches:
- Whether the pipe modification is installed, the amount of power received and consumed
- Bunker Network's size and Structural Integrity
Repair
Repairing a damaged structure is always done with a Hammer and always costs Basic Materials. Unlike building there's no limit to how many players can repair the same structure simultaneously. A structure can't be repaired while it is on fire. Enemy structures can be repaired. Manually repairing a decayed structure partially restart the grace period, proportionally to how much health the player repaired.
Structure damages are also slowly and automatically repaired if the structure is being maintained by a nearby Base or Maintenance Tunnel with Maintenance Supplies in its stockpile.
Structure Removal
Destruction
Structures can be removed using weapons (mostly explosives). However attacking friendly structures (that are not considered neutral like Storage Boxes or Trenches) counts as friendly fire and quickly restricts the attacker from using weapons for 20 minutes thus making the removal tedious. On top of that many structures are immune to Friendly Fire.
Removing Friendly Fire Immunity
Most structures immune to Friendly Fire can be flagged for "Disruptive Structure Placement" using a button at the bottom of their interface or upgrade menu. If enough players (usually 5, sometimes more) flag them their Friendly Fire immunity is removed and they can be destroyed. Note however that damaging them still counts as friendly fire. Flagging a structure creates a log in its Action Logs and in the Region Event Logs accessible through the F1
menu. Every flagging is also announced in chat for everyone in the region.
Husk
Many structures leave behind a Husk when destroyed. Husks are neutral structures that can also be destroyed with explosives or left to decay.
Fill in
Tier 1 Trenches, Craters, Foxholes, as well as husks of Trenches and Bunkers can be filled in to remove them and restore the landscape around them. Equip a Shovel, switch it to "Upgrade Mode" with F
and press E
on the structure to open its menu. Then select the "Fill in" option. A blueprint will appear which can be dug.
Tier 2 Trenches can also be filled in except they require Basic Materials and an Advanced Construction Vehicle.
Dismantling
AT Mines, Anti-Personnel Mines, Barbed Wires, Barbed Wire Fences, and Tank Traps can be removed by dismantling them with a Wrench (must be crouched, 10s animation).
Demolish
An instant demolition option exists for Facilities, their utilities (Foundations, Pipelines, Provisional Roads, etc...), Maintenance Tunnels, Signposts, Trenches, Bunkers, and nearly all unfinished blueprints. The original builder can instantly demolish them using the button in their menu (press E
or open their upgrade menu). However it can only be done if there are no enemy nearby, and the structure was built recently (duration depends on structure type, it's 3 hours for blueprints). If the structure is reserved for a squad its members can also use the demolish option. The demolition refunds the materials used for the construction and for the upgrades, they are dropped on the ground at the player's feet.
Structure demolitions are logged in the Region Event Logs.
Decay
Alternatively A structure can be destroyed by letting it slowly decay. Simply make sure there is no Base or Maintenance Tunnel in range stockpiled with Maintenance Supplies. Use any building tool in Upgrade Mode on the structure to check.
Shippable Structures
Shippable structures are not built normally but produced and then shipped, using a crane and a shipping vehicle. They still suffer from decay when placed.
