Ferro 879
“ | A pistol imported from Estrella in the east, the Ferro 879 is a common sight on many battlefields. | „ |
— In-game description |
The Ferro 879 a Colonial Pistol that is the default weapon for any fresh Colonial player spawn. It uses 8mm ammo.
Description
It is a Colonial 8mm secondary weapon with medium damage (30-45 Light Kinetic), short range (14m effective, 40m max), decent fire rate (80 rounds/min), light weight (25), and a 8-round magazine. It has a low recoil and decent accuracy. It also loses little stability from movement, allowing it to be fired accurately even on the move and without cover and rarely miss at short range. The gun kills in 3 shots in most cases within its effective range. It has the exact same stats as its Warden counterpart.
As a secondary weapon, it can be drawn and aimed quickly even when low on Stamina.
The Soldier Uniform reduces the Ferro's weight by 25%.
It does not stack in the player's inventory (1 per slot).
Production
This weapon is not available for production. Colonial players will spawn with one equipped and two 8mm magazines in their backpack. As a result, pistol ammo is plentiful compared to other weapon types.
Storage
It does not stack in structure or vehicle inventories (1 per slot). It can only be stored in the stockpile of Bases (32k max).
Tactics
Remember to reload the weapon each time you spawn, as it will always start out unloaded.
The Ferro 879's rapid accuracy recovery makes it a better choice than certain slow-firing rifles for storming trenches if a Bayonet is unavailable.
The rapid stability gain allows you to walk without aiming and not lose accuracy. Even if you sprint and move around, the recovery is such that you'll be back to a decent stability within moments. This results in a weapon that meshes very well with fast paced combat at short ranges - it is still outperformed by SMGs in this role, however.
Trivia
- The Ferro 879 Pistol's icon and in-game model appear to be based on the American Colt M1911 and the Browning Hi-power.
- The Ferro 879 Pistol may also be based off a Spanish Astra Arms copy of the American M1911 pistol. A particular copy known as the Astra 1911 A1 Daytona bares close resemblance to the Ferro 879 Pistol. Although the company's origins are Spanish, a Swiss manufacturing company would take over the name and logo rights in 2008.
- The word "Ferro" translates to Iron in Portuguese and Italian.
- The "879" in the weapon's name seems to denote a year of introduction.
- Prior to Update 0.47 the Ferro 879 was the default sidearm of both factions and was referred to simply as the "pistol". Additionally, it used "9mm" pistol rounds, that were converted to 8mm after the update.
