In-game description

The BMS Railtruck (also known as a Small Container Car) is an early-game logistical small train car designed to transport large quantities of raw resources along Small Gauge Railway Tracks.

General Info

Crew

The BMS Railtruck houses a crew of one soldier:

  • Operator (Seat 1)
    • Able to deposit the car's inventory into a nearby stockpile - press Keyboard White Mouse Left.png
    • Unable to accurately deposit their contents into a specific stockpile
    • Players can enter from left or right side of car but only exit from the side with the small platform. Special care must be taken when entering as it may not be possible to leave due to obstruction.

Health & Armor

The BMS Railtruck has 900 HP. It has "Light Armor" resistance: it can soak small arms fire and shrapnel, and it is immune to Flamethrowers. It can soak 12.7mm machine gun fire but not for long. Heavy explosives and anti-tank weaponry are an extremely dangerous threat to it.
It can be field repaired with a Hammer and Basic Materials. Each hit consumes 1 Basic Materials and repairs 9 hp (100 hits for full repair).

Features

Car Coupling

Two small train cars that are close together can be coupled by standing in the middle, holding Keyboard shift.png+Keyboard e.png, and clicking the Couple Cars option. Connected cars stick together and can be pushed or pulled by a Small Train Locomotive connected at either end of the chain. Up to 5 small train cars can be connected, locomotive(s) included. The driver of a small locomotive can access the inventory of all connected small train cars when interacting with structures by selecting the car in the structure's interface. Decoupling two connected cars is done by using a Wrench while crouched between them.

Instant Content Submission

The operator can directly submit the entirety of the car's inventory into a nearby stockpile by pressing Keyboard White Mouse Left.png. This includes any structure or vehicle with a stockpile that can accept the particular content (Bases, Resource Transfer Station, Resource Container, certain facility structures, etc). To successfully submit, the target must be on either side of the car and less than 3 meters away. If multiple targets exist only the closest one is checked.

Storage & Transport

The BMS Railtruck cannot be stored in a Storage Depot, Seaport or Storage Ship.
It can be packaged into a medium Shippable and transported by any Shipping Vehicle (Mobile Crane, Flatbed Truck, Barge, Freighter, Storage Ship, Landing Ships, Flatbed Car). It can be lifted by any crane. A Mobile Crane or Large Crane can undeploy and move while holding it.

Tactics

The BMS Railtruck should only be used in logistical tasks, where the transportation and collection of large quantities of items, materials, and resources are required. Additionally, these types of vehicles should be only be used in backlines and midline regions, and as far away from frontline combat.

Due to its means of transportation, it is very limited to where it can move. It is highly recommended to keep their movements limited and in small, manageable areas.

It is an essential part of the facility gameplay loop if the facility is transporting massive quantities of raw resources, as this is the only train car that can do so. This is especially useful for most facilities, especially those that are refining Coke from Coal, or ones that use large amounts of Salvage in their processing.

It's one of the few vehicles not to appear as triangles on Map Intelligence.
