  • Two 12.7mm machine guns - placed in the hull, with a limited firing arc

Inventory

It has 15 inventory slots that can hold any item. It primarily uses 12.7mm (stacks up to 100)

Production

The Heavy Infantry Carrier could not be produced at a Garage, and instead must be discovered and grabbed at a Relic Vault. They were very rare and only appeared in a few wars.

When the vehicle is destroyed, it left behind a husk that that could be rebuilt:

  • Reconstructing the vehicle cost of 200 Refined Materials
  • The HIC husk could be destroyed, which completely removing the vehicle from the entire duration of the war

Storage & Transport

The Heavy Infantry Carrier cannot be stored in a Storage Depot, Seaport or Storage Ship.

If it is destroyed, the husk can be packaged and lifted by a Crane and carried away from the battlefield.

Tactics

The Heavy Infantry Carrier is a lumbering machine, sporting slow movement speeds both on-road and off-road. Although its armament isn't too powerful compared to other vehicles, its large health pool makes it able to drive directly into enemy fire and deploy the infantry inside of it.

If the Heavy Infantry Carrier is destroyed, it will leave behind a husk, in which both factions are able to grab the husk and rebuild them. As such, it is of utmost importance to secure it from the enemy and transport it back to safety. Once in a safe location, it can be rebuilt and used again in frontline combat.

  • It is automatically deleted if left unused in the world for 5 days.

Trivia

  • It is implied that the vehicle is a predecessor to the O-75b “Ares”, the Colonial Super Tank
  • The Inferno update devblog detailed concept art mentions that the HIC was originally intended to be a Colonial super unit but was deemed not "super" enough - its hull design was later reused for the O-75b “Ares”
  • The Heavy Infantry Carrier was not mentioned in patch notes, but was first discovered on the December 21st, 2019 and later confirmed by developer Markfoot with the warning that players who managed to 'glitch into the vault and enter the vehicle will start the decay timer of the vehicle'
  • Although initially appearing on the DevBranch of Update 0.36 as a possible prototype to be researched, it didn't end up making it to the official release
  • The Heavy Infantry Carrier is likely inspired by British World War I landship designs such as the Mark I- Mark VII tanks or the British-American Mark VIII Design, also known as the "Liberty Tank". The overall design of the Heavy Infantry Carrier seems to have been inspired by the British Mark A Whippet Medium Tank of the First World War
  • Husks of the Heavy Infantry Carrier can be found in the Kirkyard in Weathered Expanse, as well as in Umbral Wildwood in the form of the Vehicle Husk lore piece.
