— In-game description
The UV-24 “Icarus” (also known as a RPG Jeep) is a Colonial open-top LUV equipped with a mounted RPG Launcher. It automatically gathers Map Intelligence when driven, and transmits it to friendly soldiers.
The UV-24 “Icarus” has 1300 HP and is disabled under 40% health. It has "Unarmoured" resistance, even small arms fire and Flamethrowers are a danger to it. It takes 120 Basic Materials to fully repair it from 1% to 100% health with a Hammer. Its health can be instantly repaired at a Garage for 100 Basic Materials.
Interactions
Automatically gathers Map Intelligence within 60 meter radius every few seconds and transmits it .
Only active when driver seat is occupied
Can interact with most structures in proximity - press E or Shift + E
Can pull three times the normal amount from stockpiles - press Shift + LMB
Its speed, autonomy and firepower make the Icarus a great vehicle for quick raids against enemy defenses and supply routes in back-line regions.
Although the vehicle can deal significant damage to enemy light armored vehicles, it isn't recommended to fight them, especially head on.
The effectiveness of the Icarus is multiplied when used in groups of 3, because it allows to kill all Pillbox types in one salvo and thus not having to fear the retaliating fire. Against light armored vehicles or even Scout Tanks, 3 Icarus can prevail if they use their mobility to flank.
If firing at a very close target the RPG's explosion can damage the vehicle as well.
The RPG being a slow moving projectile, the speed of moving targets must be taken into account when firing.
To maximize the RPG's range you must aim at the top of your target, but if you are firing from a short distance you should aim at a vertical surface so the shell doesn't pass over the target. This is due to the RPG using a similar aiming as firearms, making you aim a bit above flat surfaces.
The crew being vulnerable is the vehicle's greatest weakness, a single Grenade can kill the whole crew if caught off-guard. Anti-Tank Sticky Bomb and High Explosive Grenade are dangerous but less of an issue given the vehicle's mobility.
Because the passenger can't use binoculars from their seat, the Icarus has less spatial awareness than a Half-Track or Tank.
Trivia
The armor plating of the UV-24 "Icarus" resembles armor addon kits developed for the M151 MUTT during the Vietnam war.
In Greek mythology, Icarus was the son of Daedalus, who perished after flying too close to the sun while using a pair of wings crafted by his father.
