— In-game description |
The Listening Kit (colloquially known as a LK) is a large item placed on Tripods that allows Factions to intercept Map Intelligence from enemy Watch Towers and other intelligence producing structures.
Uses
Intel Interception
The only purpose of the Listening Kit is to collect enemy faction intelligence for use by the friendly faction. When deployed, within an 80m radius of enemy intelligence sources (Watch Towers, Observation Towers, Observation Bunkers, Radio Backpacks, and intel gathering vehicles), intercepted intelligence appears on the map. Intercepted structures appear with a flashing enemy coloured icon. All other intelligence icons appears as normal.
When deployed, the Listening Kit emits soft 'beeps' every 2 to 5 seconds. These are audible from 10 meters away (see audio sample lower in the page).
Usage
Large Item Handling
As a Large Item, a soldier can only carry one at a time in their "Large Item" slot. It can be picked up from the ground with V
and dropped on the ground with V
(or Shift+V
if another "V" interaction is available). It can be submitted to a structure/vehicle's stockpile or inventory with V
or by clicking the "Submit Large Item" button in their interface.
Deployment
- Press
B
to get into placement mode - Press
LMB
while aiming at a Deployed Tripod - Once deployed, it becomes a "Deployed Listening Kit" structure.
Disassembly
- Press
E
on the Deployed Listening Kit to open its interface - Click the "Pack Up" button at the bottom
- Once disassembled, the tripod and Listening Kit drop on the ground.
Visibility
Deployed Listening Kits use the same visibility mechanic as soldiers: they are invisible behind solid obstacles, in or behind smoke clouds, in the darkness at night, in the Snow Storm fog, inside bushes (though revealed to people within 10m). They are often only betrayed by their periodic beeping sound.
Decay
As structures, Deployed Listening Kits are affected by decay and die to it in 24 hours (10 times faster if near Region border) unless it is prevented by Bases or Maintenance Tunnels.
Production
Structure | Input(s) | Output | Time |
---|---|---|---|
Factory (Utility) | 150 x Basic Materials | Crate of 5 x Listening Kit | 00:01:00 |
Must be fully researched in the Weapons and Structures Tech Tree in order to be produced.
Storage
It does not stack in inventories (1 per slot).
Unlike most Large Items, it can only be stored in the stockpiles of Bases (32k max), it does not fit in Material Pallets, Rooster - Tumblebox Trailer, Material Transfer Stations, Small Flatbed Car, or Storage Rooms.
Crates of Listening Kit can be directly submitted to any item stockpile that accepts that item to transfer their content. The crates can also be stored in the crate stockpiles of Storage Depots (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Seaports (1000 public, 100 per Reserve Stockpile), Shipping Containers (60), or Storage Ships (1000).
It can be transported by almost any vehicle with inventory slots. However it is much more efficient to transport it in bulk amounts as crates, either delivering them to a Base's stockpile with a Truck or to a crate stockpile with shipping vehicles carrying Shipping Containers.
Tactics
- Because tripods can be deployed pretty much anywhere, Listening Kits are best installed in areas difficult to access and rarely used by the enemy but still within range of intel transmitting structures.
- Observation Bunkers and Observation Towers are prime targets for Listening Kits given their large intel gathering radius.
- Deployed Listening Kits are not faction locked, allowing disassembling of enemy listening kits to be repurposed by the opposing faction, or to despawn 5 minutes later.
- Listening Kits can be placed inside bunkers. It is thus possible to build a Trench and Bunker with a doorway, place the Listening Kit inside, then remove the Trench and doorway to make the kit much harder to find and remove.
- Since enemy intel-gathering structures stop working if they are within 220 meters on their side of a Frontier Border, then friendly Listening Kits placed near them won't intercept anything.
- The 'beeping' can be heard when the binocular focal point is near the source. The player doesn't need to be within 10 meters.
