Facilities were added to the game with the 1.0 release and allows players to create their own industrial bases. This guide is intended to introduce players to facilities and get started with their very own industrial base.

This guide will cover the creation and progression of your facility until your first train train

This guide assumes you are familiar with the basics of logistics already, i.e knowledge on obtaining, refining materials and using the materials to manufacture goods, constructing buildings and making vehicles. Please see the logistics guide here: Logistics Guide

Foundations

Facilities can only be built atop of foundation. Foundations are built using a Construction Vehicle using Gravel so obtaining gravel will be the first step in making our facilities.

Obtaining Gravel

To get the gravel we will first need to get Coal and then refine this at the Refinery into gravel.

Coal fields can be found on the map, hovering over the icon will let you know how many nodes remain to be harvested. In this case the field closest to me has some coal. Coal can be harvested with either a Hammer, Sledgehammer or a Harvester.

Once you've got a truck-full of Coal, bring it to the refinery and refine it all into Gravel.

Coal refines into Gravel at a ratio of 5:1 and takes 1 second per piece of Coal.

Other Preparations.

Whilst the gravel refines, now is a good time to gather the other materials and vehicles we will need to construct our first facility. I'd also recommend finding a large flat spot of land without many obstructions (such as trees) this will be where you build your foundations.

All requirements before creating your first foundation and factory:

  1. A Construction Vehicle build using a hammer and 100 diesel at any Townhall or Relic Base.
  2. 500 Basic Materials for our Materials Factory, the Diesel Power Plant and our power poles, 370 is technically the amount we'd need however best to have some extra.
  3. A few cans of Diesel, producible at the refinery with salvage. Typically there will be public diesel available to take.
  4. At-least 300 gravel, the more the better.

Building our Foundation

There are 4 different types of Foundations:

  • Foundation (1x1) - Cost 75 Gravel
  • Foundation (2x1) - Cost 115 Gravel
  • Foundation (2x2) - Cost 150 Gravel
  • Foundation Corner (1x1) - Cost 75 Gravel (useful for expanding around complex terrain)

For simplicity I am starting with a simple 6 x 4 rectangle from which I can expand upon later. You can demolish your foundation (as long as you were the person who placed the blueprint) at any time for the next 3 hours and receive all the gravel back so feel free to experiment. I'd recommend placing the blueprints first before committing to any building to save time (note that 3 hour timer starts when blueprint is placed).

I've built close to a salvage mine and a train line so that I can easily connect my facility to the train network and have an easy source of scrap. It is also close to the coal fields on an adjacent map and coal is an important resource later on- not just for foundations.

Making out first new Material

Now that we've built our foundations it's time to create our first few facility buildings so that we can start producing our first new material the Construction Material

Diesel Power Plant

Our first facility we will build is the Diesel Power Plant which generates 5 MW of power using 25L (quarter a can) of diesel, the generated power lasts for 45 seconds. The cost of this building is only 150 basic materials.

When placing facilities you may notice an arrow, this indicates the intake and outtake used by Pipelines which may be worth considering if you would like to automate your facility better.

As the diesel power plant uses diesel, it is recommend to have a Fuel Container or a Fuel Tanker nearby to store the fuel and keep the station topped up.

Materials Factory

Once the diesel power plant has been built, we will next build our first factory: The Materials Factory which refines salvage into Construction Materials, a material we will need for all other facility buildings and upgrades. This facility is the only other building that is also made with basic materials, it costs 200 of them.

How Power usage works

As mentioned before our diesel power plant generates 5 MW of power, This is shown when pressing E to open the facility menu. Fichier:DieselMenu.png The materials factory we've just made uses 2 MW of power whilst turned on so we can have up to 2 materials factory running at once which will be useful for making more construction materials.

It's important to note that this power will still be in use even if the production is paused due to a lack of materials and also that some buildings such as the Light Vehicle Assembly Station will always use power whilst connected to the grid even when not in use. If your power usage goes over what your generating then some building may cease functioning.
