This heavy artillery cannon is designed to cripple enemy fortifications from an entrenched position. Its long heavy barrel gives the "Thunderbolt" outstanding range.
In-game description

The 50-500 “Thunderbolt” Cannon is the Colonial Heavy Artillery which fires 150mm shells. Its minimum range is 200m and its max range is 350m, 50m more than the warden Huber Exalt. It has an 8.5s reload speed. It can be placed on the ground or on a Trench Emplacement.

Description

The 50-500 “Thunderbolt” Cannon is an artillery piece exclusive to the Wardens. It fires 150mm shells, which are indirect shells designed to destroy structures at long distances. It has a minimum range of 200 meters and a maximum range of 350 meters. It can be placed nearly anywhere on the ground, or in a Trench Emplacement, which will give it additional buffs.

Due to 150mm shells being a Large Item, it has a logistical challenge, requiring one player to feed shells to it in order to maintain a fast firing rate. Prolonged artillery bombardment by this artillery piece on an area will slowly transform it into No Man's Land.

Crew

While the 50-500 “Thunderbolt” Cannon only requires one (1) player to operate the artillery piece, it requires two (2) to rotate the gun, just like other artillery pieces.

  • Right-side Gunner
    • Adjusts the azimuth of the artillery piece
  • Left-side Gunner
    • Able to fire and reload the artillery piece - by pressing LMB and R respectively
    • Adjusts the distance of the artillery piece - by scrolling the Mouse Wheel

Inventory

The 50-500 “Thunderbolt” Cannon has one (1) inventory slot, which can hold any item

  • Should only hold 150mm shells

Armament

The 50-500 “Thunderbolt” Cannon is equipped with a long-range 150mm artillery cannon

  • Fires 150mm shells
  • Takes 5.5 seconds to reload the artillery piece

Production

The 50-500 “Thunderbolt” Cannon can be built either at a Construction Yard, or in a Mass Production Factory under the 'Structures' ShippableIcon.png category.

It must be fully researched in the Weapons and Structure IconFilterWeaponsStructures.png Tech Tree in order to be produced.

Interactions

The 50-500 “Thunderbolt” Cannon can be interacted with either on foot, or in a vehicle by pressing E. Additionally, a Large Item, such as a 150mm shell, can be directly submitted into the artillery piece by pressing V.

Transportation

The 50-500 "Thunderbolt" Cannon cannot move on its own, and must rely on Cranes in order to be moved anywhere.

It can be packaged and transported either by Flatbed, Barge, Freighter, or a BMS Black Bolt with a Flatbed Car connected to it.

Squad Reservation

The 50-500 "Thunderbolt" Cannon can be claimed by a squad (button located at the bottom of the menu),which prevents anyone not in that squad from packaging it and moving the artillery piece. Despite being squad-claimed, the artillery piece can still be used by other players of the same faction (structures are faction-locked, thus cannot be entered/interacted by a player of the enemy faction).

Prolonged use of heavy artillery on an area will slowly transform it into No Man's Land.

Placement

Just like all emplacements, when the 50-500 "Thunderbolt" Cannon is placed inside a Trench Emplacement (also known as an 'Octagon'), it receives two benefits:

  • its health is increased - 4x (quadrupled)
  • its rotation speed increased - 2x (doubled)

NOTE: If the Trench Emplacement is destroyed, the Emplacement goes along with it

It can't be placed on Bridges, but it can be placed within the "no build" zones, which is within 60 meters of a region's border. Doing so will make it quickly decay due to being in the Rapid Decay Zone.

Visibility

Unlike Field Guns and certain emplacements, the 50-500 "Thunderbolt" Cannon is not invisible at night and cannot be hidden inside large bushes.

Due to this, they can be spotted by enemy artillery crews, which makes them susceptible to either being attacked by counter-artillery, or by an enemy squad trying to eliminate the artillery piece(s).

Tactics

The 50-500 "Thunderbolt" Cannon can be fired from nearly any location, but it greatly benefits from being placed inside of a Trench Emplacement. Whenever possible, it is recommended you place defenses around the artillery piece(s), as artillery is vulnerable to enemy attacks. The Trench Emplacement should upgraded, either to Tier 2 or Tier 3. This won't increase the health of the emplacement, but rather it increases the trench's health, which makes it tougher for the enemy to destroy the artillery piece(s).

Due to the intensive logistical demand of artillery, it is recommended to have an artillery crew, which can increase the efficiency of the operation, such as firing/reloading the artillery piece, carrying the 150mm shells to the gun, and spotting. Using Material Pallets also highly increase efficiency by reducing the distance between the shells and the artillery piece, as well as the retrieval time for the shells.
