Colonial Organisations

Swords of Maro

The Swords of Maro was a company or legion within the greater Colonial Legion[1] led by Legate Thea Maro. Its origins appear to be in Thea Maro's resistance fighters[2] during her early years in Therizo, with many of her friends from that time attaining high ranks within the legion.[3] They can be found buried alongside her at the Sword Memorial in Therizo.

However, despite its renown, it appears the legion would devolve into a "farce" far from what it originally was.[1] Many would also grown disillusioned with the colonial cause, doubting Maro's intentions and leadership.[4] Thus, several of its soldiers would choose to desert.

Notably, one of Thea Maro's closest Swords, who we have since deemed the Traitor, would also find his faith challenged and abandon the Legion.[5]

Howling Lions

The Howling Lions were a colonial naval company led by the famed Velian captain Ambrose Leon, the "Lionheart". They were instrumental in many raids on the Caoivish Western Coast,[6] particularly Fisherman's Row and the Farranac Coast. [7][8][9] Their last known appearance was during a colonial attack on Callum's Keep, when the Lionhearts namesake flagship was sunk and his name disappeared form known history.[10]

As a small curiosity, it appears they preferred to use the Mesean Volta r.I Repeater during their raids.

The Magisters

The Magisters are an order of civil servants working within the administration of the the Mesean Republic. They are an elite group whose main job is to act as researchers for different intellectual matters, such as engineering or history.[11] They may also be realted to the Magisters Prime, the highest known rank within the Mesean Senate.[12]

They appear to be based off the Alympia Collegue located in the heart of Mesea, and they are trained and educated into the position at the "Summit Institute of Mastery and Magisters".[13]

Despite their esteemed position, some members within the high ranks of Mesean bureacuracy appear to want the order disbanded. [11]

Republic Rangers

The Republic Rangers are a force in service of the Mesean Republic and seemingly separate from the wider Colonial Legion. Their exact function is unkown, but have been seen performing tasks of domestic security in the state of Kraunia against a local insurgent group known as Guardia.[14][15][16]

Bronze Men

The Bronze Men are a group of mercenaries working for the Colonial Legion, with them being known to have been deployed at the deserts of Leiloa Fa. They do not have a good reputation even among their allies, being described by the Colonials as "rapists and drunkards". Despite this, they are seen as a valuable asset to Colonial interests.[17]

Warden Organisations

Nevish Alliance

The Nevish Alliance is an international organisation that serves as a defensive alliance against Mesean aggression. It is led by the northern Kingdom of Nicnevin, with Caoiva being one of it's founding members.

After the fall of Sunhaven the Caoivish leadership was forced to retreat and flee to Whedon's Row. To resist the colonial advance Witan councillor Jon Barrony would negotiate a deal with the Nevish at the shores of the Scrying Belt,[18] which would later become the basis for the Alliance.[19]

Other known members of the Nevish Alliance are the Kingdom of Sorovia,[20] Edel,[21], and Wenitai.[22] The different members all have their own armed forces which are separate from the Wardens.

The Hands

The Hands is an elite military unit[23] within Caoiva, serving as the bodyguards and enforcers of the will of the Caoivish Archon.[22][24] Their origin is found in the ten companions that accompanied Iain Callahan during his journey to unify the country during the events of the Breaking, who were also known as his Hands.[25]

They are notably separate from the Wardens within the armed forces of Caoiva, usually far away from direct combat and deployed in the Warden in-exile capital of Whedon's Row. However, they are known to have been used as special forces in high stakes operations.[26]

A military group with a similar name was the Hands of Veli, but the two should not be confused.

The Watchers

The Watchers or Watchmen are a group belonging to Caoiva that serve as a police force for the country and as guards to places like prisoner camps[27]. Little else is know about them other than the only known rank being that of Constable.[28]

The Scribes

The Scribes are a now defunct and disbanded organisation whose job likely was that of keeping historical records for the Caoivish state. Little else is known about them, but they "had long been dissolved" by the time of the Battle of the Ashfields.[29]

Neutral Organisations

Hanged Men

The Hanged Men are a group of deserters from both factions who have since taken a life of illicit activies such as smuggling or piracy, with their existence being known to both the Wardens and the Colonials.[22][30] Little is known about their organisation, although they appear to have notable leaders of great renown such as the pirate Dudley Balderstone, known as the Sea Dragon.[31]

They are known to have used the Abandoned Armouries to stockpile relic vehicles and other old weaponry and schematics that they have hoarded.[11] It is unkown whether they built these vaults or simply took them over, but they would reinforce them in such a way that few would be able to break through them through conventional means.[32][33][34]

The sigil of the Hanged Men is a cross with a human skull in its centre, and can be seen on their flags as well as engraved on the entrance of the Abandoned Armories. This symbol was adopted to honor the men and women who had been punished for desertion through crucifixion.[35] Several such sites can be found around the map: in Den of Knave's in King's Cage, northwest of Therizo along the coast in Terminus, and south of Tomb of the First in Loch Mór.

Reavers

The Reavers are a faction of pirates once led by the Picarian captain Ur Deadtooth. Their headquarters used to be located in the Old Captain in The Fingers, prior to their captain betraying them and selling them off to the Colonial Legion.[36] While Deadtooth was a picarian, it is unkown whether or not the majority of his crew was too.

It appears at some point the Reavers also came to make deals with the Hanged Men, although by that point Deadtooth had already begun making deals with the Meseans so it is unkown how long this relationship would last.[37]

Bassett Motor Society

Bassett Motor Society is a vehicle manufacturer founded by the Bassett family that specializes in the production of logistics vehicles. Its designs span across both factions, implying that the company has a neutral stance on the conflict and simply wishes to profit from it. They are known to export their products to countries through different continents such as Raka, Katoma or the Alliant Union.[38]

Curiously, recent evidence has shown that a member of the Bassett family by the name of Guion Bassett is a State Consul representing the state of Kraunia in the Mesean Senate,[12] showcasing a possible conflict between the supposed neutrality of the company and the personal loyalties of its members.

It manufactures the following vehicles and equipment:
