A simple caboose that allows rail crews to maintain tracks more efficiently.
In-game description

The BMS Roadhouse (also known as a Caboose) is a train car designed to repair and reset the Decay of Railway Tracks.

General Info

Crew

The BMS Roadhouse holds four passengers:

  • Passenger(s) (Seat 1 - 4)

Engine & Mobility

  • Uses no fuel
  • Can only move on Railway Tracks, must be placed on tracks with a crane
  • Cannot move on its own, requires a Locomotive connected to it to be moved
  • Can ram and destroy any structures (such as deployed Tripods) in its path
  • Instantly destroys any unarmored vehicle in its path if there are no friendly soldiers inside of them
  • Does not trigger Anti-Tank Mines

Interactions

  • Couple two cars together - hold Shift + E and press Couple Cars (they must be touching/close together)
  • Decouple two connected cars - requires a Wrench used in the area between the two cars
  • Repairs railway tracks connected to it - must be driven over in order to work (done with any part of the entire train)

A train can have up to 15 cars connected, Locomotive(s) included.

Storage & Transport

The BMS Roadhouse cannot be stored in a Storage Depot, Seaport or Storage Ship.

It can be packaged into an extra large Shippable and transported by a Large Crane, otherwise it must be moved on Railway Tracks.

Tactics

The BMS Roadhouse is vital for railway track maintenance, as it is the best way of maintaining large quantities of tracks with minimum effort. The efficiency of the Caboose largely depends on how much the railway tracks are being used, as they rely on consistent usage in order to prevent them from being completely decaying.

In terms of decay duration, railway tracks have a "Grace Period" (i.e. the time between initial construction, and when decay begins to take effect) of 48 hours, or 2 days, while it takes 32 hours, or 2 days and 8 hours in order for a railway track to fully decay. Knowing these timers allows players to plan around these decay mechanics and include the Caboose to do track maintenance.

When crouched, a soldier can pass under the caboose balconies which can help get across a long train blocking your way.

Trivia

  • The BMS Roadhouse is the first vehicle ever introduced into Foxhole with an automatic repair function, and was introduced in Update 1.51 as a sustainable way of maintaining long stretches of railway tracks.
  • Initially, the BMS Roadhouse only used Garrison Supplies (the previous name for Maintenance Supplies), but were later changed to include Construction Materials after community concerns due to their usage increasing Factory queues.
    • These changes would eventually lead into the major rework of decay and maintenance mechanics in Update 1.52.
